The more we practice finding something to be grateful for each day, the more it changes our way of seeing and being. A gratitude practice can help open our heart to all of life and boost our happiness, resilience, and sense of well-being. It can be something simple that we bring our attention to, something right in front of us. We can give thanks for rain that clears the air! For what we have, materially and in spirit. For the beauty we can find all around us, the small kindnesses of friends, the goodness inside each of us.
During the holidays, when we turn our attention to loved ones near and far, we can feel gratitude for their presence in our heart and reflect on how they have contributed to our life. We can express our love and gratefulness in a thoughtful card or by attentive listening to how they are during a phone call. When we sit down to our Thanksgiving meal, we can take a moment to savor our blessings and appreciate all that went into bringing this food to our table. And pause to remember all who are suffering hardship during this challenging time.
